I will be a first year psych this fall. What should I do to start the year right? In regards to documents, files, reports , building relationships, and introducing myself. Can you provide a checklists that you use when you start an evaluation? What do your files look like? What is your 30 sec elevator speech about being a school psych? Also, I will be in a middle school, what are the best parts of being a middle school psychologist? What kind of problems do you see most? At what age do you get students actively involved in IEP process? Do you provide them students with self rating scales? What are the best “prizes” for middle schoolers? I am a paper planner, is there a planner that you would suggest to best support SP staying on track? Anything else I should know?

Hi Uzma – great questions! Are you coming to Summer Boot Camp? These are the exact questions we will be asking all of our team members from July 11-22. Also, check out our Ask a Psych replays, especially with Sarah, our middle school psych. She answered many of your questions about being a middle school psych in our May replay. You can also check out our replays on our Time Management page. Fall organization tips are right near the top of that page.
